I have two of those, actually blindingly bright.
Yeah that’s the hard part, when other people know you’re into flashlights so they just grab whatever’s available at the local hardware store.

Yeah, years ago after I started collecting knives, I basically came out and said for people to never buy me a knife unless it was specifically one on my wish list.
I appreciate the sentiment but I’d rather those people buy me socks or something instead.

I have one of these as well. It’s quite functional and takes rechargable AA. I have mine around for emergencies
But its ASTONISHINGLY BRIGHT for goodness sake.

I have a similar one I bought from local dollar store. It has a better diffuser and warm white LEDs. The beam is actually very nice. It took 3 AA batteries and I modded it with a current limiting resistor, 2 x 18650 Li-Ion in parallel and a USB-C charging and protection circuit. Now a full charge lasts 15 hours. I liked it too much I bought another one, LOL. It costs something like 4 USD and it stratches my mod itch really nice.

At least doesn’t look like a USB killer one. They put mains voltage through the USB port, so if plug it in to mains, and a USB device at same time… bad things happen.
