Depends on the person tbh, I have cheap knives and I have expensive knives and I enjoy carrying a sebenza just as much as I do more expensive and significantly cheaper knives. It’ll last a whole lifetime with good care and as long as you don’t intend to baton lampposts with it, but if you don’t want an expensive tool, don’t get an expensive tool ya know. Lots of knives use the same materials at a fraction of the cost, for me it was just the look, feel, and quality that made me keep mine
aint_no_goddamn_sob
They are nice. If you can afford it then I’d go for it.

The analogy of cars and knives explain this very well in imo. The purpose of a car is to get you somewhere from point a to point b. Some cars may be better such as faster, more comfort, luxury, etc. The purpose of a knife is to cut something. Some may be better. For example cuts better, better ergonomics, smoothies action, etc.
Some people think having a million dollar car is pointless, as some people believe owning a $1000 knife is pointless. At the end of the day it is a choice between having a simple tool or luxury tool.
IMO I think it’s worth it. I love knives and they give me joy so it’s worth it at the end of the day. Some people will think it’s stupid and that the money can be used for better things (which it prob could). If you think it’s worth it and it will give you joy, go ahead and buy it. It’s your hard earn money. But I would go crk zaan.

They have this mythical lore of the “Grail knife”, & they’re not that.. they’re a quality knife with tight tolerances & made with premium materials. If you like the design, & spending $360-$600+ on a pocket knife is inconsequential for you, then you’ll probably love it. But if you’re saving up thinking that you’re going to get something spectacular, you’ll likely be disappointed..

Well it’s Chris Reeve to start with. If you aren’t interested in disassembling the knife for maintenance then no it’s not for you.

Yes and no. You could argue that no knife is worth that much, however the workmanship, quality, and materials are top notch.
In a world where everything is made cheap and mass manufactured people look to quality manufactured items (even if they aren’t hand crafted or custom made) and are willing to pay a premium.

Get a plain Sabenza with the drop point or insingo blade.

You will love it.
I own knives that are MUCH cheeper and MUCH more expensive but this is the sweet spot IMO.

A CRK costs what it costs. It’s a unique product and ownership experience. If that experience is worth the price of entry to you, then yes it’s worth it. You don’t NEED one though. Plenty of knives that are much less expensive will provide the same level of utility and likely longevity.
I don’t have any problem with their price personally. Sure, I’d like them to be less expensive but am willing to pay what they’re asking.

I don’t ever see myself spending more on a knife as I did my combat troodon ~500$, I make pretty good money but that purchase gave me the old Joe exotic “I’m never going to financially recover from this” feeling

You could justify it if you have the disposable cash, value long-term support, and appreciate having a knife that’s simple to service. The new models coming out with super hard magnacut heat treatment is also very cool.

I first got into knives about 20 years ago, and started with Benchmade, and eventually settled on Spyderco as my go to brand – with a few other brands thrown in here and there. To me, knives have always been tools first and foremost – so everything I’ve bought I bought with the intention of carrying and using it.
For as long as I’ve been buying folders, I had always wanted Sebenza mainly because of the mystique surrounding them. I had a few opportunities over the years to handle them, and while I could certainly appreciate the build quality, I couldn’t justify spending $350-400 on a tool that would mainly be used to open packages and envelopes.
Finally, I got to a place where the price wasn’t that big a deal and I pulled the trigger on a Plain Jane Large Sebenza 31. Once I finally owned it, I was….underwhelmed. The build quality and fit/finish is top notch for sure. But, as someone who intended to carry and use the thing, that didn’t matter all that much. My daily has been a Spyderco Caly 3 for nearly 10 years and not once during that time did I wish the fit and finish were any better.
So, for 3x the cost as the Spyderco, it certainly didn’t seem 3x better. The extra blade length just made it more impractical to carry, and I almost never find myself in a situation where that extra 1” of cutting edge would have made a difference. And, even though I now find the price to be relatively reasonable, it still seems like a waste to use a $400 folder when a $100 folder works just fine. Also, while it could probably be ok, I never felt the urge to try and use it in place of a dedicated fixed blade for hard use tasks.
So, my Sebenza has just been sitting in a drawer for almost the entire time I’ve had it. Occasionally someone in the family will grab it to cut open a letter or a package if it’s the closest one within reach. Otherwise, it’ll probably never get any more use.
That said, I’m glad I got a chance to own one of my own and figure out what I like and don’t like about it for myself. I may end up selling it down the road, but I’d also be fine keeping it just to have one in my collection.
Basically, is it worth the money? Sure. But it isn’t significantly better than a quality $100 folder imo. Then again, that’s probably the same with most things where you reach a point of diminishing returns – and whether something is worth it past that point becomes entirely subjective.

No. I own a few, but no. I like that they have extra wide washers, a design that straddles compact and robust, and a great warranty. I would still say that they are not worth it to the average person.
But I absolutely will have at least one in my collection for the forseeable future.

I’ve had a couple. I enjoyed them, however for the money I can get (2) 200-300$ knives and depending on the knife a better value per tactile response. Tbh I enjoy many cheaper washer knives to crk, including but not limited to mbk OG, Zt0640, anything Spyderco Slysz, qc drift

Got a large inkosi tanto in s45 a couple of months ago. Literally opened it, played around with it, and thought, “i dont get it.” It’s not over engineered enough to justify its price. The tight lockup is great and all but completely intolerable to open at first because it’s so stiff. Personally, I dont care for it. I carried it about a week and tossed it back in the box.
I can’t speak for its warranty because i definitely won’t need to use it, but it seems they’ll basically refurbish it whenever you send it in, so if thats something you’ll use, maybe its justifiable. Personally, I dont think they’re worth it.
