I am not that educated when it comes to knives and wanted to know if benchmade is a good brand to pick from. The one in the photo is the one I’ve been thinking about getting.

It’s not a bad knife. The handle material feels a bit plasticky, the blade is a bit thick and can wedge in cuts. The real gripe though is that Benchmades are very high in price compared to similar knives produced by the competition. If you like this knife I’d suggest the hogue rsk instead.

That’s a great knife. I’ve had mine over 10 years

I’ve been collecting Benchmade’s for 20 years. This is a fantastic knife. The main downside people tend to bring up about BMs is their price, and for MSRP I absolutely agree with them. BM has increased their prices into the stratosphere. This is a MUCH better deal if you can get one on Knife Swap on here. Don’t worry about the plastic people say comes with this knife. It’s actually Grivory, which is very similar to gun polymer. It’s stupid strong. If you really hate it you can easily upgrade.
I’ve got both a full sized and a mini one myself and the full size is one of my main Carries.

One thing to note is that the spring in the knife can break. People can go many years (Sometimes 10+ according to some posts that I’ve read) without having any issues but mine broke a year into using it during a hiking trip leaving me with no way to fix or use it safely. Benchmade has great warranty and will fix it, you can also buy springs online.

Don’t buy on Amazon
yankeeclip
Carrying this exact knife right now, it’s not gonna win any beauty contests but it’s honestly a fantastic little blade. MSRP is a little high for what you’re getting but it’s still super solid.
kmm12312004
I’ve had one for almost 10 years and it’s amazing they are more costly than they should be but a absolute great knife people complain about the spring in the lock breaking but I’ve never had one break and if they do online they have a after market one that’s more durable and pretty cheap.
Satrialesbadabing
I was gonna say dont but off Amazon. Its a good knife but like others have mentioned for the price point the handle doesn’t feel premium but very comfortable in hand no hot spots.
Alarmed_Insurance_85
I think for around the same price the Hogue Deka in Magnacut is a far better choice for a user knife it uses similar materials but the blade steel is miles ahead of S30v. Of course if your number one check box is ergonomics then the mini grip is not a bad option!

I’ve never heard bad things about Benchmade, they’re just too expensive for a “user” knife, IMO.
Catbay
Short answer is yes but I have a benchmade bugout that I got 2 years back and I’ve had to fix the edge after sending it in for benchmades famed “life sharp” and I’ve also had many issues out of the axis lock springs other than those poits it been my favorite edc beater knife iv ever ownd
buckeyeinstrangeland
I own 20+ knives and the Griptillian is my favorite in its price range. A very sturdy knife, it is an edc with great ergos that can take a beating. The one con is some people do not like the handle material. It is also fun to fidget with.
Yaris2012
Check out the Hogue Mini-RSK. Very similar knife and price, but better materials.
My first hogue immediately killed my desire for more Benchmades

Buy this fantastic knife and begin your trip into the rabbit hole
GalaxyTater57
I love BM and their knives, little expensive now but if you like it then it can worth it. I would HIGHLY suggest getting the full size Griptilian if your local laws allow the size and it’s not that much more money
iSpazzAlot
BM has some really good knives, but they tend to be wildly overpriced. You can much better knives at half the cost, honestly.
FeebleUndead
Yes they are a good company. However, their prices have gone up a stupid amount and their quality control seems to have gone down over the years. I’d recommend checking ebay for a gently used BM and you could save yourself some major $$.
OarkJay
Gonna throw in DLT sells a white one that is *chef’s kiss* You won’t regret the buy.
j_dizzle_mizzle
See the (556-S30V)?? The S30V is the steel, though not the greatest ever, it’s a solid performer and will handle most anything you throw at it.
TinaKedamina
I recently lost mine and I miss it everyday. Great knife.
dw0053
I’d go with a Ritter Hogue Grip personally
kdubstep
Try and find a used one cheaper on u/Knife_Swap

You don’t need a $75 knife, as a daily tool. My daily driver is 35 bucks. I’ve lost too many amazing and expensive knives. I’m a geologist and Wildland firefighter, cheap tools you can lose are the way to go. I do have expensive knives, but they are for special occasions, not everyday tools.

You should look at a Spyderco Paramilitary 3 instead, uses a compression lock that won’t let you down. Much snappier action too, IMO, and far better build quality and strength. Benchmade’s [Omega springs can, and do, break](https://old.reddit.com/r/knives/comments/10mrc74/after_3_years_i_guess_i_was_overdue/), and they do so at an alarming rate. Just look it up on this sub, there’s a post about them breaking once a month or so.
For stuff that is a lot cheaper and still very good quality, look at Civivi and Kizer. They have mostly liner locks (which are plenty strong if done right, and they are) and also some button locks. I personally prefer liner locks.

I love my benchmades. I’ve had 3 total and they were great knives
Hobgoblin_deluxe
Decent knife. Handles are meh, but the blade is perfect, even if it’s 154CM. That steel can take one hell of an edge.
Holiday-Sleep6458
I have that exact knife and carry it daily! If you are unfamiliar with knives this will probably be the best feeling knife you have ever owned.
Crackheadthethird
They are good knives at a less than stellar price. Waranty is good and quality should be there but you might be able to get more for your money elsewhere. With that said, if you like the knife design then it’s not s bad buy at all.
Elhond0
Buy the Civivi instead
funyun88
The Ritter/hogue RSK the same design with better materials. Around the same price too.
Stang3
I’ve been carrying a mini griptillian for about 3 years and really like it.
Slav_sic69
Benchmade is good stuff. Sometimes overpriced vs competition but they’re good.
abefrohman78
The Mini-Griptilian is a solid first knife that will give you years of service. I have custom scales going on mine now.
Use a reputable knife dealer such as BladeHQ or KnifeCenter though, not Amazon.
