This is an old email I dug up when looking for an old order (from around 2015). I reached out to ask of they still or would ever do this again and the answer was no.

Now they just add a line to their Google sheet and refuse to elaborate.

I’ve had bad experiences with them. Zebra lights are built poorly imo.

  4. I think they are at a point where they don’t really need to advertise to sell anymore. Their reputation is well established in the community and I would assume most Zebralight users are repeat buyers.

I really don’t understand how Zebralight works as a company and a business model. Their products are some of the best engineered and thought out in the industry; they’re not the most innovative or trendsetting, but they are reliable, well-established, and beloved by niche communities like flashlight enthusiasts, cavers, etc. It seems to me that, with some effort, they could become the byword for quality and reliability like Surefire is for the mainstream.

However, it also seems like they have next to no interest in expanding, developing new products, marketing, or even keeping their popular products in stock, to the point that people are constantly wondering if they’re on the verge of collapse. They seem content with these niche markets (and don’t really market to them either – all hype is generated by enthusiasts with lingering interest in the brand) and to cede the entirety of the mainstream market to legacy, high-end brands like Surefire and relative newcomers with massive marketing presences like Olight. Even on the enthusiast side, I would hazard to guess that they’ve lost tons of market share over the years to new standards like Sofirn and Emisar.

I say all of this as a huge fan of the brand. I truly think they make the best lights for the most people. I just can’t comprehend how they’re running their business.

I thought this was gonna be a meme about how they did it then vs now.

I think the way they act now is part of the lure.

  7. In many ways, Zebralight reminds me of Chris Reeve Knives:
    – zero marketing
    – constantly out of stock
    – making some of the best products available in their market segments

You probably know already, but just in case. u/Bob_McBob
