The process for tightening an FW series light is with the head loose tighten the tail then tighten the head. I’m not sure many people understand why this is the case: it’s because the inner sleeve only has a hard stop on one end (the tail end). If you tighten the head first then you can’t get the tail tight enough to hold the clip down. The length of the inner tube varies light to light so they end up with a gap of varying width at the head (if you follow the tightening procedure).

To fix this gap I decided I would just sand the sleeve down.

If you do this DO NOT sand the tail end as it’s set by the hard stop. Be cognizant of how level you are holding the light and visually make sure it’s even all around and you didn’t sand it on a slant. And whatever you do do not sand it too much or you will no longer make contact.

Otherwise it’s a pretty simple and easy way to close the gap.
