I’ts not much to look at, but I’ve been daily driving this little KR4 for couple years now, and its picked up a couple mods along the way.
First mod I did was a custom 3×1 TIR for channel switching. I cut a single lens out of a carclo 10621 and glued in a 10623 lens. Then I frosted the adjacent 10621 and the area over the aux lights. For me this gave me the perfect flood with a bit of hotspot with LH351, and maximum throw on the W1 channel. It worked out really well considering I made it with a pocket knife while on a backpacking trip, but the tiny scratches from handling caused some light loss.
Now I have installed a 2×2 TIR, with two 10623 lenses over 519a and two 10621 over the W1. The beam is great, beam shots are included. One 519a is 2700k domed and one is 3500K dedomed. I am not one who particularly likes his light to be pink, but I was very pleased with how natural this combo looks as compared to two 2700k emitters. Big upgrade over the LH351. The cleaner work on the TIR means much cleaner beam for the W1.
My light had a factory defect that caused it to reset all the time, and I just finally got around to fixing that while re-programming the light. I wrote a firmware based on anduril catered towards quick channel switching, you can find it here: https://budgetlightforum.com/t/custom-firmware-kr4-quick-channel-switching/219820/2
I had a bit if a freakout when my button input stopped working and I thought I fried the light, but eventually I figured out that at some time Hank changed the pin he used for the e-switch, and nobody was the wiser. So be warned when flashing firmware from the repositories, it might temp-brick your light.
I also layed magnets into the tail of the light. The magnet glued into the button has the added bonus of making it a little bit stiffer, like people do with the button mod. The ring magnet idea I got from another build here, but I guess the magnets I bought weren’t quite to the same spec and I had to carefully file inside out for them to fit. I opted to super glue the magnet on so that I can remove it if it breaks in the future.
The sleeve is a bit of bicycle tube, for mouth holding the light 😋. That’s why I got this KR4, so I could press the button w my tongue when its in my mouth.
I cut down the clip to better fit the small body. I just gave it a tiny bend at the end and capped it w epoxy.
