Would you guys rather have a Spyderco Para 2 in S110V or a Benchmade Osborne 940 in S30V?
Bit of back story – I got a 940 in S30V from a local shop at the beginning of the month. It’s alright – not sharp or slicey at all but can cut the hell out of tape on a box 😜
I got a Para 2 in S45VN last week. In my opinion, the Spyderco is leaps and bounds better than the Benchmade – I give ‘pocket feel’ to the Benchmade though (that thing pretty much disappears in my pocket).
The shop I bought from allows returns for 30 days, so I have another week if I want to swap. I’m thinking I want to bring it back and use those funds to get another Spyderco (Para 2 or Para 3 in S110V).
I’d hate to hang onto the 940, if I don’t think I’ll use it as much. No sense in holding onto it just to say I have a Benchmade.
What would you guys do?

I have both the 940 (same exact model as yours), and 2 x Para2 (DLC M4, and Magnacut). Sadly, my experience with 940 is the same, came from factory kinda dull. It wont feel as sharp after sharpening either due to its blade geometry vs PM2’s. I decided to keep the 940 due to its weight and action. I normally edc the 940 when I’m not wearing jeans to work. It feels like it just disappears in my pocket. maybe instead of getting another Para2, look at Sage 5. It’s a smaller knife, light weight with better action than the Para2 (imo).
Id be a lil weary of getting s110v, everyone says its chippy on that pm2 even though I never had any issues with my pm2 s110v it has not seen much use, i sent it in to get sharpened by spyderco and the edge they sent back was terrible, unless you like sharpening hard steels I would say pass on that steel and get a better rounded one, I think the pm2 in Magnacut is coning out soon also if you want that corrosion resistance
Just get and keep what you like.
Properly sharpened either of them are enough to slice anything you’d cut with a pocket knife.
I would prefer the Benchmade for EDC. But the Para 2 might be better for a Zombie Apocalypse. The spring on the Benchmade is a little bit fragile. Reading your comment I don’t really understand why you are on the fence.
I would bounce the 940 and get a PM3. Even though the PM3 is a little smaller, I think it still has slightly better ergos. S45VN is a very good steel. You don’t have to spring for the S110. But, there should be other options in Maxamet, Cruwear and probably even Magnacut.
But, you could also just get a cheaper PM3 and maybe a deep carry clip or even some scales.
