Be me: 50-something-F. Have EDC, will travel. I have a few posts in the group already, and have been EDC-ing for over 30 years.

I was over at my sister’s yesterday. I’ve recently had a big surgery, can’t do a great deal but sit and look pretty. She’s renovating an upstairs room and is getting frustrated with it (it’s not going well). I want to help and be useful as we usually reno and decorate together. Cue sad face from me. My sister knows this. She plops me down at the dining table to build a couple of Ikea kallax drawers. Like handing your four year old a toy hammer and two old bits of wood, to keep them busy and they feel useful for Mom.

She hands me a Phillips that was possibly used in an alternate universe zombie apocalypse for everything except screws. The business end is all chewed up, and I can’t generate downward force right now to even attempt to try with this piece of crap. Basically, it’s useless. Because I’m older than she is, and being quite handy herself she should know better, I can look at her disparagingly over the top of my glasses.

“Where’s your little ratchet wrench I got you?” I ask.

“Um… I put all my birthday things away in a gift bag… somewhere,” she replies.

I had my eye on this ratchet set a while. Sister told me a few weeks ago that she had her eye on one of those orange $6 ones. So for her birthday I got her this Wera wrench (it’ll last longer) and got one for myself at the same time. I had tiny screwdrivers and old, poor quality bits in my EDC for a while and it was time for an upgrade.

I ask her to go fetch her own set, she dithers trying to think where she’s put it. It still takes a moment for my brain to keep ticking over the idea, until: “Oh, F me, I have mine with me! I’m an idiot.”

So. Anyone else forget they have their EDC with them and what they have with them, or just me? In my defence, while I can sit and look pretty, my brain is not quite firing on all cylinders two weeks post major surgery.

In other news, I’m super impressed with this little ratchet wrench. It made quick work of the drawers with zero effort or strain, and so glad I got us both a set. Pictured are the Wera bits and a couple of my own.

I keep forgetting that I carry adhesive tape or some plastic bags that I intended on reusing. I sometimes remember, more often than not I forget.
