This has been on the agenda for a few years now but other stuff kept eating into our district budget. I originally asked the question here of which lighting company I should go with and a few off-road enthusiasts recommended Diode Dynamics.

I ordered 3x pairs of DD’s SS3 Pro yellow pods with 3 different sets of optics. The SS3 yellow pods use 4x 5000k XP-L HI’s behind a yellow tinted TIR optic that brings them down to a nice warm 3000k. This is important because I need to minimize backscatter off of smoke and dust in the air. The lights we currently have on this dozer are practically useless—the 6500k reflects back horribly off of any dust or smoke, and there’s *always* dust and smoke.

For the lights in the first location per photo order (above the doors) I ordered the flood optics.

For the second location (on the blade) I ordered the combo optic which has a combination of 2x “driving” optics (a throwy optic but not their throwiest) and 2x flood optics.

For the third location (behind the limb risers down low) I ordered the Fog/Wide optics.

DD has a 30-day satisfaction guarantee free return policy so if the beam profiles aren’t what we need then we can return them. They even said we could return them after using them on fires as long as it was within that 30 day period. Pretty cool of them.

If these work out well we’ll be buying some more for our other dozer.

The guys at DD were fun to work with—they know their lighting so it was fun to nerd out with them about emitters, CCT, color rendering, etc.

Anyway, I’m extremely stoked about this. My expectations are high so I hope I’m not disappointed. I’ll update with beamshots once we get the lights in the mail and get them installed. We’ve been running fires most every day for a couple of weeks now so it should take no time at all to put them through their paces once we get them.

After over two years we’re finally getting them, man!

    I appreciate the original suggestion!
