18650 branded vs unbranded? should I go for cheaper ones from now on? the branded ones are at least double in price.

   Yes, most of us use unbranded, the trick is making sure to get them from reliable retailers who in turn buy them direct from Panasonic or whoever. There is a market in fake batteries that pretend to be good unbranded ones but aren’t.
