It’s good because you will always remember that your grandpa got it for you.

It will cut a few things and sharpen easily so it’s good for that.

It is from your grandpa. There is no better knife.

Quality wise. No.

It’s good because it’s a gift from grandpa. Period. End of story.
My grandpa would be 110 years old now. He hadn’t survived long enough to present me the pocket knife he had bought for me, that he was going to gift me when I was old enough.
He bought it for me 30 years before I was born.

Honestly, this being a gift from your grandpa makes it more important than even something like a Chris Reeve from a random person. To put it into perspective from your grandpa, consider this. Back when he was a kid, knife steels weren’t terrific. Yes american made was much more commonplace, and fit and finish was perhaps better because of that. However the steel in the knife you have there, in spite of it being on the lower end of a common use every day carry knife, has DECADES of research/development and technology that has helped even the crappiest of steels perform decently if the heat treatment was done decently. The standard alphabet soup chinese steel, I believe is 8cr13mov “someone correct me if I’m wrong.” It takes and holds a decent edge, is fairly tough, and is stainless. Compare that to the low or even mid grade steels from decades ago and decently heat treated 8cr would likely be considered a super steel. Not too long ago, 440c was considered a super steel and is now considered mid-grade decent all around steel at best.
Anyways, enjoy your knife. The fact that it came from your grandpa is worth more than most anything.

Knives from grandpa are always to be treasured. My grandfather lived through the depression, survived D Day, beat PTSD and alcoholism. He’s been dead more than a decade. Nothing brings him back in my mind like the pocket knife he gave me that first belonged to him. It’s not good, the action is loose and the steel very soft non-stainless. He repaired the antler scales with copper wire rivets. It’s not a good knife but I love it because it belonged to him and he gave it to me.

Gift from Grandpa? It’s priceless.

That pocket clip is insane. Also as people said, grandpa gave it you, keep it in your family for generations now, that is an order.

It looks cool and it’s a gift from grandpa makes it a super cool knife.
Sloesheep
One of my most treasured knives is my Pepe’s clunker.
Crazy-Release-4203
As everyone else stated. It’s priceless. My grandpa on my fathers side gave me an OG Ka-Bar and I’ll never forget that day. It’s in a display case in my knife room.
Ancap_Sm00thbrain

WE and Civivi are made in China and they’re solid knives. What you have there is a treasure.

I say coat this one with some CLP and put it up somewhere safe cause it came from your papa. Perhaps You’ll want to pass this down to your kid some day. Then get yourself a QSP Penguin, a Civivi Elementum, or Sencut Honoris, etc to use as a beater. All quality knives for under $50. lol
CertainRound4464
Use it till it dies. Some stuff from China is descent

It’s nice that it’s from your grandpa. If we ignore that fact though, it’s a junk quality knife.
ETA: not sure why the downvotes it’s a cheap gas station quality knife. The steel is “stainless steel”. The pocket clip is horrible. If he didn’t say this was from his grandpa then 100% of the comments would be that it’s junk.

From a quality standpoint – not especially
From a sentimental standpoint – the very best
I also have an inexpensive Chinese knife from my Grandpa. When I picked it out with him at the store he said “you can cut a lot of hotdogs with that!”. Miss you Grandpa.

Grand parents bought me a very similar knife from the brand « albainox » 13 years ago. I still have it. A bit heavy as a folding knife but impossible to forget it in the pocket. Chinese or not, it’s a valuable gift.
QueasyAtheism
I used to have one just like that! Knives from grandpa are the best.

This is the kind of knife you replace the bushings on, hell maybe even the blade eventually if you find one that ‘fits’. Because Opa got it for you.
TheMightyEohippus
Nothing more to add here bro. Your IPhone and laptop are made there, so is every appliance in your house. Many MANY things are. They can make quality stuff, we just associate it with crap. Your Grandpa remembered when Toyotas and Hondas were “Jap crap”.
IsaKissTheRain
People here are going to draw and quarter you and kick your Grandpa into a lake for the serrations alone. Ignore them.
Edit: I stand pleasantly corrected after reading the comments. It isn’t the best knife out there, more of a good “beater” but it *is* the best *from Grandpa* knife. That’s what matters. For daily use, that’s just fine, for cutting some fishing line, or opening a shipment box, or whatnot, it’ll do you well. I would suggest you take it as a bushcrafting knife or such, but enjoy.

It’s a gift from your grandfather. Take care of it and it will be as good as you want it to be.

Don’t trash it. Keep it forever.

I’ve had like 3 variations of that same knife. They’re great carriers, although if that’s steel, it’s a bit heavy. I think one of them I had was aluminum (with a rubber overmold instead of the wood, otherwise identical) and it carried really well. I would recommend against carrying it if you’re like me and prone to losing knives. I almost lost one of the old school folders I got from my dad.

bro its a gift from your grandpa, of course is good
TheHammerTime44
The fact that it is made in China does not affect the quality of the product, don’t worry
In any case what really matters is that it’s a gift from your grandfather 🙂
