Epic fail battoning

  1. I was battoning small kindling wood to start the wood stove last night when this failed. I bought the knife in PA at a roadside marketplace. There was a young man outside the store selling handmade knives. This one caught my eye. I had it 2-3 years. It’s been pretty reliable until now. Can it be fixed or is it trash now?

I know they are pricey but I beat the hell out of my Bark River bushcrafter ultralite in 3V. Smaller than what you had there but lots of other models. Might be worth the upgrade if you want reliability

Yeah you get what you pay for with a Pakistani mystery steel/no heat treat knife. And there are a lot of people running that scam at flea markets, tourist traps even eBay.

  4. With the clean line on the back of the blade … was that simply epoxied into the handle?

Guess it wasn’t full tang.. some will get it

If all you use it for is batoning then clamp some vice grips on it and keep using it

    Beats sacrificing another knife

Well, since it seems you’ll be needing a new knife… get yourself an Esee. It will cost a little more than this one, but if you ever break it (which is unlikely) they’ll replace it for free, no questions asked. There are a lot of good reliable fixed blades out there, but none with a warranty like Esee. Once you buy one, you’ll never have to buy another knife, unless you want to of course.😉

Sorry about your knife OP. If you’re looking to replace it with something that will handle use like batoning, check out ESEE knives. They’ve got knives of any size you could want, and all of them have a lifetime warranty. I’ve got two of them (Izula and Junglas) and I’ve absolutely abused both with no damage to the blades.

I’m an ESEE fan, but there are many brands which are decently priced that will perform well. Condor, certain Cold Steel models, Ontario, and Becker by Ka-Bar all make phenomenal knives.
