without a permit these are considered illegal to carry in most states . this is so stupid considering that I can open most of my knives just as fast or faster . double edge are even not allowed why

Can’t have anything cool here in MA. BladeHQ wouldn’t even ship me a Balisong trainer, had to ship it to my buddy’s house in NH.

Why? Fear. A powerful tool.
The media spread fear in the 1950s by associating switchblades with violence and crime. People became afraid of them, politicians jumped on the bandwagon and eventually laws were passed.
It’s even more goofy where I live. They finally made it legal here to own automatic knives, but prior to January you could catch a charge if found with one. Meanwhile, legally, you could legitimately strap a broadsword to your back while carrying around an AK-47 as long as they are not concealed.
KccOStL33
Because as what is typical, the people that make the laws about these things have a very loose actual understanding of these things..
Shadow_Of_Silver
You need to find a better state to live in my friend. /s
It sucks that people are still scared of certain knives.
shatswell1377
My state you can carry a sword if you want! No “ Chinese throwing stars” thou!
SmylesLee77
The ban is a 2nd Amendment violation. They are no more dangerous and are poorer constructed than many folders.
Virtual-Reach
I live in Canada. No butterfly knives, switchblades, gravity knives, push daggers, brass knuckles, and the list goes on. Anything scary is banned. One hand open pocket knives are fine as long as you buy them from Canadian retailers. Canada customs will seize them though if you import them.
Gunpowdergasoline
I think its stupid that you cant own ballistic knives. I mean who is gonna use a 1 time use blade on someone cause the likely hood of getting it back is minimal. I just want to shoot ballon animals in my backyard with my daughter.
beelzebob909
And here I am in Colorado with switchblades, OTFs, guns, growing weed and mushrooms, with a gay libertarian governor, and my wife has human rights.
xyz4533
Random states allow them during fishing season for saftey. It’s a real weird knife classification tbh
Tightisrite
If it came down to a knife being a weapon, you’d be better off with a broken glass bottle than you would be an auto.
Also, If I was about to defend myself u better believe I’m pullin a fixed. So yeah not sure why autos are illegal lol
AZORIAN_K129
Would you give me a mini review of the exo
DoubleDDos
thank god im in arkansas, i love carrying my reate exo just to show it off to people
leonpinneaple
Weird thins is I can carry any auto as long as the blade is 3 inches or shorter.
YABOIYFEF
It’s kinda stupid to think that automatics are illegal anywhere when fixed blades can be deployed faster considering their blade is already out and can cause far more damage due to the fact that they can be made out of 1 solid piece of steel
Redboy45672
Knife laws are pretty dumb. Imo non autos open up just as easily and are more easily manipulated with one hand
SlipperyJim211
Virginia changed our “switchblade” law last year to allow autos. Sadly, we are still prohibited from “concealing” an automatic knife. If you have one, you’d better not put it into your pocket unless you enjoy being a felon!
Carry laws are the main reason I’m okay with living in Texas. I could carry a zweihänder on my back and a .50 cal on my chest and no one could do anything about it. I wouldn’t because it’d be heavy. But I could.
Edit: grammar
redpaintin32__1
They just repealed the van here in PA this year. Also, and I might be wrong but I don’t think it’s MOST states anymore.
500SL
Come to Georgia.
Carry whatever you want.
MyFuckinhBalls
Laws are made by people who don’t know shit about fuck and have a security detail following them around for the rest of their lives. Fuck them, carry what you want
Popular-Net5518
I live in Austria, and almost any knife is legal to own/carry. The only exception are knives/weapons mimicking a harmless object (cane swords, knife in a pen and so forth).
However we have not been spared by stupid gun laws. Break action shotguns -> legal. Semi auto shotguns -> legal. Pump action shotguns -> highly illegal.
deathsythe
Gun owners: first time?
Rootelated
My emerson matriarch 2 opens faster than any of these lol its open before you even get it completely out of your pocket
teh27
What’s the third knife in this picture?
mwa206
I’m carrying the Godson now. It’s my EDC. I never worry about the carry laws.
I always thought those laws were to prevent self harm.
I’ve seen lot’s of morons open an otf into their palm. I’m sure people have hurt themselves with gravity knives somehow.
Never underestimate how stupid people can be.
silver-shooter
Any chance you want to sell that warlock? Or the pro tech?
1man2barrels
I think CT may have the worst knife laws. I cannot carry and OTF unless it’s less than 1.5 inches. Not even a Cali legal auto will work. I have a Microtech Ultratech and can carry it on my property only.
sapotts61
Here in Colorado no carry knives with a blade longer than 3.5″ and no gravity blades.
Bitter_Effect423
Why do we allow legislative bodies to legislate about things they know next to nothing about? Go down the firearms laws rabbit holes lol.
SevenSix2oo
The warlock is so cool
chainsawjak
Pfft, you should live in the uk, then you’d be pissed!
macgaier
I know it’s so stupid. Every knife does the same thing no matter how fast it opens
DeusWombat
Demonising things like knives is a great way for politicians to make it look like they are doing something when in reality they are doing effectively nothing. You see it with guns all the time too
I call it “riding the political carousel”, where you make it look like you are going somewhere but instead are just staying in place
wbjohn
I was told while visiting Florida that if I used a double edged dagger to defend myself and killed the attacker I would be charged with murder as there is no other reason to carry a double edged dagger than to kill.
DaemonBlackfyre_21
What is the second on the left with the goofy blade?
suttbutt2014
If ur state allows otfs now, the exo gravity is legal correct?
jeffh40

So much to unpack here. Where do I start.
-I’ve not heard of a carry permit for knives. Is this a new thing?
– Autos aren’t illegal in most states. Although every state is different, most allow Autos in some form. Even California as long as you keep the blade short. Some states are retarded though.
-At least 2 of your 4 examples are not double edged. I have the Godson and carry it often. Definitely only sharp on 1 side.
sinisterdeer3
In my state (MO) i can carry anything, 4 inch blade or more requires open carry, but that literally just means you cant have it unclipped in your pocket.
AR you can carry anything except for a few cities have laws on some stuff
xVIPERA
Theres really no reason to ban knives based on the type of opening. Having springs or using centrifuge to open doesnt actually make a knife more dangerous. However, double edged knives tend to be banned because they’re designed more as weapons rather than tools.
QualityVodka
It’s not illegal if you don’t announce you’re carrying it.
Criss_Crossx
Wisconsin seems to be a very gray area. Lots of hunting and fishing so I’m sure that’s partly why.
I don’t have issues carrying pocket knives and haven’t known anyone to have a problem here. Hell, a couple months ago I walked into the office at work to see my supervisor aiming a scoped rifle at our server room, ‘concealed’ by a pointsetta.
MoonWun_
What’s even more funny is that you can probably conceal carry a firearm in most states just with one permit. So we’re putting firearms and knives in the same lethality range as “just a permit and it’s 👌” will do just fine. Really weird.

Thankfully, it looks like our legislature is fixing that glitch now, and I’m assuming that the Gov will sign it: https://kniferights.org/legislative-update/virginia-switchblade-concealed-carry-ban-repeal-passed-off-to-governor/
