Somehow I’m not surprised. Ridiculous they think it’s okay.

No structural issues…hmm. I’m not sure RHK Customer Service is someone who should be making that judgement.

Makers need a better PR service from people who actually know about knives, this shit is embarrassing. I’m guessing they outsource it to somewhere.

I’m no fan of RHK and their shenanigans but that is most likely the small mark a water jet makes as it finishes its tool path. I am 100% positive it’s not a crack. It’s up to you how much of a cosmetic issue it is.

  3. Not a Crack but it does speak volumes of their QC process if they’re letting sloppy tooling out the door…

  4. You and I both know it will break at that point.

I sent in a sebenza 21 that was very well used and fairly clapped out, for a sharpen and a blast. Crk CALLED ME and said they didn’t like the lock up, said it was a little late and a little sticky to be a good representation of their knives. They did my sharpen and blast, and replaced all the hardware, re heat treated the lock bar, and replaced the blade all for free. They called me….I was already happy lol. Now I’ll be a customer for the rest of my life.

Tiny tool mark on the inside, unseen part of the knife. Why would they fix something that ain’t broke. If it does end up breaking send it back and I’m sure they’ll help you out. These are made to be tools, so in the meantime, don’t sweat it and run the dang thing!

  7. midline_trap

It’s not a crack though. Tis but a scratch

  8. Slay3r7023

Yeah, I wouldn’t be okay with that either. Sorry you’re dealing with it, but you let me know to take my money elsewhere, so thank you! I was going to try one out, but I think I’ll end up with another CRK.

I can not understand anyone defending this. It’s a $400 knife. You are paying that amount of money for the quality of the product, if you get better finishing work on a $200 knife, the price is no longer warranted. “It’s a tool, it still functions.” Correct, but if I had just bought a brand new car, I wouldn’t expect a dent in the fender, even if the car still functions perfectly.

I have the worst experience with RHK customer support. First off I sent it in, they told me they never got it. Im pissed, its $450. They say “oops we found it haha! We’ll update you when it done”

Radio silence for weeks, they dont answer emails and they cant answer the phone. For WEEKS

FINALLY get ahold of them via phone. They say “oops this has been done it should have been sent out already.”

    Finally arrives

Good thing hinderer designs don’t appeal to me. You pay $400+ for a knife, it better be perfect

  11. thomas_vanstavern

Everything I see about Rick Hinderer makes me want to stay well clear of his knives. I would feel more confident playing the lottery with Benchmade’s QC.

  12. Dumbledoorbellditty

Most of my knives are in the 2-300$ range, but I’ve started shopping around some higher quality ones. Thanks to your post I’ll know to look more into CRK instead of Hinderer knives. If I’m paying several hundred dollars for a knife I’d expect customer service to be top notch. With the ridiculous margin they make on these high dollar knives anything less is obscene.

  13. PecKRocK75

Just one of the many reason i will buy a hinderer

  14. 1man2barrels

I have a ZT0393 that I love. I’m just glad Hinderer didn’t build or heat treat it.

  15. jns_reddit_already

It’s absolutely a crack, and it will, like all baby cracks, grow. It’s exactly where you’d expect a crack.

  16. Bartelbythescrivener

I am a huge fan of Terzoula designs, sent him two knives with blade slop and bad lockup. One was my work knife with heavy abuse. He was moving shops and did not get back to me for months and then he said he didn’t want to fix. I was so pissed about having spent that kind of scratch on safe queens that can’t handle heavy work, I told him to them throw away. Today I still seethe. It’s been years and if even think about it I get angry. Every time I see his knives I think about how much money I spent when I didn’t make all that much.

When I see his prices I think he has to sell them for so much to make sure they never get used.

  17. bucko787

Better run away! If you disagree he’ll sue your ass!

  18. Consistent-Course-24

I had a bad experience with a knife they shipped that usps had lost. Put a bad taste in my mouth and they lost a customer

  19. You can tell by reading this thread, which are Hinderer fan boys, which aren’t, and those that won’t ever buy one after seeing this. I’m probably the latter of the three. Hinderer has done themselves a disservice here. They would have been better off losing a dollar or two, biting the bullet and just fixing the dammed thing. Who cares if it’s a crack or not, it might be or it might not. Customer service is all about keeping the customer happy. I think because they seem not to care, they have lost credibility in some people’s minds. If he sues he had better have proof it’s not a crack.

  20. ExaltedLife

How does spartan blades customer service compare to CRK’s i might wana pick up a Spartan Harsey folder some day

  21. SharpieKing69

I’ve had issues with them too. I sold my other XM-18s and still have my Firetac, but I probably won’t buy another Hinderer. Knives in this price range should be pretty much perfect. The price isn’t justified if they’re letting shit like this slide.

  22. NeoTheRiot

What happened? About 5 years ago whenever you read Rick Hinderer somewhere it stood for really good quality/grail knives with semi good fit/finish, now customerservice is known to be bad too? What was the hype about then?

  23. mrbitbybit

Glad more info is finally being spread of RHK. All overpriced garbage. They can’t even get their detents and flipper tabs right. You’d think they would’ve learned from their last customer service debacle but looks like it’s down hill for them.
