You can only have on to keep as a user. 940 or Shaman?

940 most practical I think as a daily user. Slim in pocket. Versatile blade

Either. Both. always 2 because 2 is one.

Shaman wins easily. Built like a tank with a thick but still thin behind the edge blade, great ergonomics, and it’s got a better lock than the 940. The Shaman may be Spyderco’s best design, which covers a *lot* of great knives.

Damn, can’t pick just one, have to say the 940 just because it fits so well in the pocket no matter what you wear and like the axis lock on it better than the compression lock on the shaman because every time I go to flick it closed I think I cut myself bad (all my knives are laser sharp at all times) because the choil bites on the shaman.

The 940 is a tough knife, tougher than it feels but if I am going to do heavy work I’d want the shaman.

But thankfully I don’t have to pick just one and actually have both on me right now at work, 940 in pocket and shaman in side leg pocket

Being someone who is a big Benchmade fan…. I gotta go with the Shaman. You can’t beat beefy Spydercos for being reliable users.

I love Benchmade’s looks, fidget factor, and lefty friendleness, but Spyderco wins the function over form game.

    940, no doubt.

I love the looks of the Shaman, but it’s just too large for me for EDC.

    Besides, you didn’t say I couldn’t have a fixie on the side😉

Shaman. I own both but the Shaman gets the most use

Both nice, but for me, I am taking the Shaman 😎

1 million times the Shaman. It’ll do any job that’s appropriate for a folding knife, including “heavy duty” work.

I’m not impressed by the 940.

Shaman, I’m biased and like spyderco a lot, but the shaman is a actually one of my more favorite knives to have. The shaman is a good hard use knife that’s comfortable to carry in the pocket and hand, and I just prefer leaf blades.

I’ve both and they’re both very good. The shaman feels like twice the size though it’s so beefy.

Shaman, thickness, shape, grip, all of it just seems a bit more “full” or beefy. Which I think is good.

I don’t even own a Shaman but Shaman. Worst build quality on any expensive knife I own is my 940-1

I’m a lefty so 940 all the way. I’d never even consider buying a shaman.

  15. cabinboys

I’ll go with the 940. I like the size for pocket carry

I don’t have a shaman, but I have many knives and I carry my 940 everyday, if that helps.

If it’s an M4 Shaman there is no other option. You can also use slim scales and carve away for a flipper if you cannot master the flick. The Shaman carries about as thick (just barely thicker) as/than the 940. It’s not as bad as everyone acts like it is, but yes it’s longer and deeper, and thicker. Ask any woman what they feel about that choice?

Even if it’s not an M4, the blade stability and structure is world’s better on the Shaman. Own both, use the Shaman daily. Never been tempted to choose the 940 over the Shaman. Period.
