Nichia 519A redome, yes, I re-attached the dome back on and it’s working fine! 5700K redome / dedome side-by-side.

I dedomed the second 519A 5700K, disliked its color and beam profile (too tight). Since I already have one 5700K DD in S2+, I regretted dedoming another one and wanted the crisp white color back. There is only one way to do it without having to buy another batch and wait for 3 weeks for it to arrive.

I still have the removed dome lying some there on my work bench, so I decided to re-attach the dome back on. I cleaned both mating surfaces with alcohol and tried to fit dome on the bare die. After several tries it came back nicely and the surfaces attached tight and the die color become lighter, just like before the dedome. I then mixed a tiny bit of two part glue and dabbed it around the seam. I then tightly pressed the dome back down using a cotton bud to push all the air out.

After letting it dry for a short while I put it into another S2+ host and fired it up. The color changed back to crispy white 5700K! This redome actually works. I’m really happy to have saved a 5700K LED. Let’s see how long it can last. I’m not driving it hard. Currently it is driven by a 3×7135 driver, which has only 1A max current so it should live quite happily as a causal light.

This is a first! I thought it couldn’t be done!

Haha awesome! I’d love to try this with a spectrometer and compare – before, after, then re-domed
