So the other day, this guy I work with brought me a bag of 6 or 7 little wood-handled folding knives. I told him they were great because I am trying to build teaching kits for our Cub Scout Pack and Scouts BSA Troop. The Pack never had one and the Troop’s was stolen last year. So he says there’s more where that came from – he has a buddy with some mental health issues and so he ended up with a ton of knives he doesn’t need. So I said “Great! I’ll take whatever you’ve got” figuring that if there’s leftovers after I make my kits, we can give them to kids who don’t have their own, or other units that need them. So the next day he brought me three five-gallon Home Depot buckets full of knives. One bucket was all fixed-blade and the other two were full of folders, some tacticool flashlights and a gallon ziplock of caribeaners. So my family (me, hubby, 15yo son & 11yo daughter) spent the weekend sorting through the cache. They are mostly Chinese knock-offs, but there were a few passable knives. We all picked out a handful for ourselves and set aside the “Scout-approprite” ones for the kids and we even invited the neighbors over to see if they wanted to take some home, but it’s going to take a while to find homes for all these.

tl/dr A guy I know gave me about 300 knives and we had family fun time sorting through them this weekend.
