Recently lost my Nitecore MH12S, leaving my Wurkkos TS25 (dedomed 519A) as the sole flashlight on my person. While the TS25 is an amazing everyday light, I like having a true tactical light on my belt as something I can rely on for personal safety as the days get shorter. I didn’t want to have to deal with proprietary batteries, so I decided to go back to a brand I haven’t used in a while: Fenix.

I’ve carried numerous hybrid tactical/outdoorsman lights on my belt over the years (e.g. Nitecore MH series), but the TK16 V2.0 is my first “pure” tactical flashlight, with a dedicated strobe button on the tailcap and an impact bezel. The holster shown here is the Nitecore NTH25, which while a bit bulky for my taste, is a perfect fit for the light.

A note about batteries: the TK16 V2.0 expects protected batteries. While it will run off my unprotected, flat-top Molicel P42As, it isn’t very reliable with them because these cells are too short. The supplied Fenix protected battery with built-in USB-C charging works without trouble, and so do my Nitecore protected 21700 batteries. I have a couple more of the Fenix batteries on order.
