First, to give your lanyard a better pivot point, use thinner cord as a tie off loop. This could be M90 cord (Micro 90, pictured) or fishing line, or similar thin cord. Then, tie your thicker paracord lanyard to this cord.
The improved pivot will help you fit the paracord lanyard into pockets and sheaths, and will make it easier to change the lanyard later.
Menards Guidesman Overload: The lanyard tie is located under the philips driver and awl. Pull up both tools and thread the cord through the hole from one side to the other.
If you are concerned about your cord being worn down by the saw, there are other options like using fishing line or even wire, or even slightly filing the few saw teeth that fit there (it won’t make a big difference, especially if you don’t use the saw much). In my use though, it hasn’t been an issue.
Gerber Multi-Plier 600 / MP600: The lanyard tie is located at the top of the handles, where they meet the plier head. It’s best to use reasonably thin cord / line / wire for the tie-off loop, to keep your pliers opening smoothly.
On the Bear Grylls Tool, the tie is located in the hole left at the plier head connection.
These lanyard tie locations will let you use a lanyard without it getting in the way as much. I don’t recommend using the lanyard loop provided on tools like the Bear Grylls or MP600.
