I like big tough knives. Stuck between these. I have experience with Cold steel recon 1 (tanto)… for 5 years…. i love it. It is dedicated to my emergency backpack. I am thinking of buying another for edc. I dont mind the weight. SOG seems really durable, as is recon 1. Price difference is ~$60.

Have the Recon 1, not a big enough difference or advantage in my eyes to spend an extra $60. I vote recon 1.
I own a few Cold Steel knives, no SOG. The quality of the Cold Steel knives is good and I enjoy them all.
Haven’t tried the SOG but generally CS is the best in the large folder dept, had a recon, voyager, and 4max, all tanks.
The sog knife is sick, but I wish it had a thumb stud. My terminus xr has similar features. Instead of that cut out it has a thumb stud. I really wanted a flipper and I tried to like it, but I almost always deploy it with the stud. The flipper deployment is kinda of weird for me. The xr lock is sick. Keeps the blade nice and secure, and doubles as a third deployment option. Button lock is so much better. I never use my knives with other locking mechanisms.
I have the bigger older brother of the seal pup and it’s a great knife but I’ve heard SOG has gone downhill over the years switching to Chinese plants and such. I rock their pentagon xr every day and it’s one of my favorite knives. I can’t speak for cold steel as I don’t own one but the SOG will definitely work.
