Here’s another in the series comparing throw distance! Ranked in order of apparent beam intensity ascending from left to right. This was limited to just single emitter lights this time, all 14500/AA sized.

Any lights that aren’t stock are listed with any mods. Two exceptions I’ve already noticed are the TiCU Lumintop Tool AA actually has a dedomed 519A, and the Convoy T2 has a light diffusion film (Cinegel #3020). I’m not sure which drivers are used in the emitter swapped lights as they were all purchased secondhand.

The test was somewhat arbitrary – done against a white wall with no measuring device – but I am pretty confident I got them all in the right order based on the visible intensity of the hotspot against the wall.

Now for a few highlights and comments.

Favorite EDC – Eagletac D25A MKII. Even though it’s a cool white low CRI emitter, this was a gift from my dad and it just disappears in the pocket. The output is impressive for its size, it employs an XML LED as far as I can tell. While I normally prefer warmer temps, using cool white during daylight is fine for work.

Favorite high-CRI EDC – the custom TiCU Lumintop Tool AA with dedomed 5700K 519A. This combo is famously practical and it does well under the orange-peel stock reflector. The Lumintops all have the Lumintop deep carry clip installed which is better than the stock clip, though not perfect.

Favorite walking light – perhaps the Acebeam Tac AA (dedomed 5000K 519A with light diffusion film). It’s got a nice beam profile, still throws like crazy, and has good ergonomics. The diffusion film was essential as dedoming the stock emitter caused the beam to look horrendous with the smooth reflector.

Favorite running light – Fireflylite P01 stock. It throws great and feels good in the hand, with enough useful light spill in the beam. It’s easy to grip and has nice preset levels. Typically I’ll wear a floody headlamp as well such as the Skilhunt H200. I like the P-series lights… unlike apparently most people!

Favorite around the house light – Fireflylite P01 with beaded TIR from Convoy. The tint on this FFL351A bin is a bit rosier and it works great at night with instant moonlight or turbo. The moonlight could be a little dimmer but the orange Aux actually works for extremely dim usage. Wish it took standard AA’s like the Lumintops to get rid of the auxilliary lights and lower moonlight levels further. The aux drain on these is pretty high so I keep them locked out.

Favorite beam – Convoy T2 with dedomed 4000K 519A and Cinegel #3020. Moonlight is super low, especially with AA batteries, and the beam is gorgeous. It is probably my favorite dedomed 519A in any CCT, sitting just about 3000K.

Brightest light – probably the Lumintop Ring King Ti with the Osram P9. It is also the heaviest 14500 light by far, heavier than the titanium Convoy T3 I gifted.
